Hello and welcome to the latest from WSRT

There’s been some incredible momentum across the women and girls in sport space over the past few weeks, and we’re excited to share a few highlights — along with a really important opportunity to support the next generation of women in coaching.

Emerging Coach Scholarships – Now Seeking Support

We’re thrilled to see our Emerging Coach Scholarship program coming together, a new intiative designed to support Tasmanian women stepping into coaching roles across sport.

We know there are so many capable women who want to coach, but practical barriers like cost, time, childcare and travel can often get in the way. These scholarships are designed to help remove those barriers and support women into leadership roles — creating a ripple effect across the athletes and communities they go on to influence.

We’ve already secured support for two scholarships, mincluding one dedicated to an Aboriginal coach thanks to Lutruwita The Label, and over the coming weeks we’re looking to build momentum so we can offer as many as possible in this first round.

We are currently seeking tax-deductible donations of any size.  If you are in a position to donate, we would be extremely grateful for your support. CLICK HERE TO DONATE

Key dates:

  • Applications open: 29 April

  • Applications close: 31 May

  • Recipients announced: early July

Every contribution makes a genuine difference in supporting women to step into coaching and leadership roles.

International Women’s Day – School Girls Brunch

Our IWD School Girls Brunch was an incredible success, with over 300 students from 16 schools across Southern Tasmania attending.

The room was filled with energy, curiosity and inspiration, as students heard from an outstanding panel of women in sport and leadership. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many schools sharing how valuable and impactful the morning was for their students.

A huge thank you to our panel speaker Kayla Stiendle (Tasmania Jewels), Roxy Perry (Sport Climbing), Abbey Gaeppen (Netball Tasmania and Tasmania WILD) & Lauren Smith (Hobart Hurricanes), who shared their stories so openly, and to our sponsors and supporters who made the event possible. Your contribution helped create a truly memorable experience for the next generation of women in sport.

We want to thank our incredible sponsors of the School Girls Brunch for their generous support, which enabled this event to happen!

  • Major sponsor: St Lukes
  • Supporting sponsors: University of Tasmania,Brighton Council, Rotary Club of Hobart, Ninja Stadium and The Hon Jacqui Petrusma MP.
  • Prize sponsors: Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, AllCare Phsyiotherapy, Bonorong WIldlife Sanctuary, Fernwood Bellerive, Golf Park Hobart, Hobart Hurricanes, Ninja Stadium, Tasmania Jewels, Tasmania Devils Football Club, Basketball Tasmania, Dr Jacqui Triffitt, St Lukes, and Tas Rugby.

We'll soon be starting to plan our event for next year, and we'll be heading North to Launceston!
